چکیده

Crowd simulation is an exciting research area that has a wide range of applications in multiple fields such as: serious games, crowd management, facilities design, entertainment, research and development. One of the most famous approaches to simulate a large density crowd is by applying the social force model. This model can be successfully used to simulate agents’ movement in real-world scenarios realistically. Nevertheless, this is very simple and not suitable to simulate a complex pedestrian flow movement. Hence, this research proposes a new novel model for simulating the pilgrims’ movements circumambulating the Kaabah (Tawaf). These rituals are complex yet unique, due to its capacity, density, and various demographics backgrounds of the agents (pilgrims). It is also consist a certain set of rules and regulations that must be followed by the agents. Due to these rules, the Tawaf can introduce irregularities in the motion flow around the Kaabah. In order to make the simulations as close as possible to real world scenarios, each agent will be assigned with different attributes such as; age, gender and intention outlook. The three parameter mentioned above, are the main problem that need to be solved in this research in order to simulate a better crowd simulation than previous studies. The findings of this research will contribute greatly for Hajj management in term of controlling and optimizing the flow of pilgrims during Tawaf especially in the Hajj season. It is also have high contribution in Hajj training especially in developing a virtual Hajj training system. The virtual Hajj system can be used to teach and prepare the pilgrims before going to Mecca and perform the actual Hajj. Keywords-component; crowd simulation, autonomous agents, Hajj

Managing Hajj Crowd Complexity: Superior Throughput, Satisfaction, Health, & Safety

Mass gatherings (MGs) are common phenomena with diverse crowd types and inherent problems, which need to be managed according to their level of complexity and potential of fatal outcomes. As such, for simple recurring MGs it is pragmatic to provide public health and safety through legislation and guidelines; whereas, complex infrequent MGs require specialized research and management. The Agent-...

Virtual Tawaf: A Velocity-space-based Solution for Simulating Heterogeneous Behavior in Dense Crowds

We present a system to simulate the movement of individual agents in large-scale crowds performing the Tawaf. The Tawaf serves as a unique test case; the large crowd consists of a heterogeneous set of pilgrims, varying in both physical capacity and activity. Furthermore, the density of the crowd reaches extremely high levels (up to eight people/m2.) This extreme density can place impractical co...

Simulation of the Pedestrian Flow in the Tawaf Area Using the Social Force Model

In today’s modern world, the number of vehicles is increasing on the road. This causes more people to choose walking instead of traveling using vehicles. Thus, proper planning of pedestrians’ paths is important to ensure the safety of pedestrians in a walking area. Crowd dynamics study the pedestrians’ behavior and modeling pedestrians’ movement to ensure safety in their walking paths. To date,...

A Specific System Design for Crowd Simulation

Crowd simulation can be considered as a special case of Virtual Environments where avatars are intelligent agents instead of user-driven entities. These applications require both rendering visually plausible images of the virtual world and managing the behavior of autonomous agents. The sum of these two requirements results in a computational cost that exponentially increases with the number of...

Crowds by Example

We present an example-based crowd simulation technique. Most crowd simulation techniques assume that the behavior exhibited by each person in the crowd can be defined by a restricted set of rules. This assumption limits the behavioral complexity of the simulated agents. By learning from real-world examples, our autonomous agents display complex natural behaviors that are often missing in crowd ...
